Nairobi County Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has expressed confidence in his chances of becoming the capital’s next governor after Kenyan-born politician Huldah Momanyi Hiltsley secured re-election to the Minnesota House of Representatives in the United States.

Mosiria celebrated Momanyi’s victory in the Minnesota House District 38A race, where she secured a second term with an impressive 71.8 per cent of the vote.

In a congratulatory message shared on social media, the former county official described her achievement as remarkable, saying it demonstrated that leaders who work hard and deliver results could earn the trust and confidence of voters.

“This is a clear indication that it is possible for leaders who work hard and deliver results to earn the people’s trust and confidence,” Mosiria stated.

Drawing parallels between Momanyi’s political success and his own ambitions, Mosiria expressed optimism that Nairobi residents would give him an opportunity to lead the county in the 2027 General Election.

“Even here in Nairobi, the people will soon make their decision to elect Mosiria a worker, not a politician, come next year,” he added.

He also invited Kenyans to celebrate Momanyi’s achievement, expressing pride in her accomplishment and its significance in placing Kenya on the international political stage.

“Nakuja, Minnesota! We must celebrate you for this remarkable victory and for putting Kenya on the international map. You have made us proud!” he stated.

Momanyi-Hiltsley’s re-election marks another milestone in her political career, which has seen her break several barriers in American politics.

In 2024, she made history by becoming the first Kenyan-American elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives and the first Kenyan-born immigrant to hold state office anywhere in the United States.

The Kenyan-born politician retained her District 38A seat after defeating Republican challenger Charlie Kistler in the November 3, 2026, US midterm elections.

Her victory has attracted celebrations among Kenyans, with Mosiria among those drawing inspiration from her electoral success as he prepares for his own political contest.
