Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, has attracted renewed attention from Kenyans following questions about the money he allegedly spent while caring for the children of his late wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo.
The discussion gained momentum after details from his custody dispute with Pastor Victor Kanyari circulated online, prompting some social media users to demand financial records supporting his claims.
Tash reportedly sought KSh 1 million in compensation for expenses he said he incurred while raising Betty Bayo’s children, Sky and Danny.
However, proceedings at the Dagoretti Children’s Court reportedly raised questions about whether he had provided sufficient documentation to support the amount.
The matter has since sparked a wider conversation about financial accountability, parental responsibilities and the challenges of raising children amid family disagreements.
Some Kenyans believe receipts and transaction records would help clarify the disputed expenses, while others have questioned whether money spent caring for children should necessarily be treated as a debt.

During the proceedings, Tash reportedly presented school admission documents bearing his name, while Kanyari maintained that he had also contributed towards the children's education.
The court ultimately awarded custody to Kanyari and directed both men to continue supporting the children’s education and reasonable needs.
