The changes were announced by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, who confirmed that nominated Senator Veronica Maina had been appointed to replace her.
Kingi informed the House that he had received formal communication from Senate Majority Whip David Wakoli detailing a resolution passed by the Majority Party during a meeting held on Tuesday, November 3.
The decision was accompanied by meeting minutes and a signed list of senators supporting the leadership changes.
According to the Speaker, Keroche’s removal was effected under Standing Order 22(5), which allows members of the Majority Party to remove a senator from designated leadership positions through a majority vote.
Maina’s appointment took effect immediately.
The development has generated interest among Kenyans, particularly because of its timing. Keroche announced her departure from UDA on October 9, declaring that she would contest the Nakuru gubernatorial seat on a DCP ticket in the 2027 General Election.
During her announcement, she said she had listened to residents who wanted her to challenge Governor Susan Kihika for the county’s top position
She also criticised the ruling party, accusing it of losing touch with ordinary Kenyans and failing to fulfil some of its campaign promises.
.Her departure marked a major political shift for a senator who was elected on a UDA ticket in 2022.
The Senate decision has raised questions about the political consequences of changing party allegiance while holding parliamentary leadership positions.
However, the Speaker did not directly state that Keroche was removed because she joined DCP. The official explanation was that the Majority Party had passed a resolution in accordance with Senate rules
Despite losing the leadership position, Keroche remains Nakuru County’s elected senator and is expected to continue serving in the House.
Her political attention now also turns to the 2027 Nakuru gubernatorial contest, where she has declared her intention to challenge Kihika.
