College of Insurance Director and Chief Executive Officer Ben Kajwang has won the 7th Global Change Makers Award, becoming the first Kenyan chief executive to receive the recognition.

The award, organised by Project 100, recognises outstanding contributions in corporate leadership, governance, education and social impact.

Kajwang's latest recognition comes days after President William Ruto named him a National Hero during the 63rd Mashujaa Day celebrations held at Uasin Gishu State Lodge on October 20, 2026.

He was listed as Hero No. 186 among 264 honourees, recognised in the category of Scholarship, Professionalism and Research for his contribution to the growth of the insurance sector in Kenya and across Africa.

The Global Change Makers Award adds to a series of honours Kajwang has received this year. In July, he won the Bobea Leadership Award for his contribution to governance and leadership.

His recognition comes against the backdrop of his work in insurance education, professional training and institutional leadership.

Under his leadership, the College of Insurance has developed into a regional centre of excellence. He also spearheaded the development of the Edge Hotel and Convention Centre, a five-star facility that hosted the 48th African Insurance Organisation Conference.

Kajwang has also contributed to the training of more than 8,500 pension trustees and 5,500 insurance professionals across the region.

His work in insurance education has extended to Kenya, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi and other countries in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA).

Beyond institutional leadership, he is an author of nine books and more than 70 academic papers covering insurance and related fields.

Kajwang holds a PhD in Strategic Management and is a Chartered Insurer (ACII, UK). He is also an Associate of the Institute of Risk Management in the United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Insurance Institute of Uganda and the Insurance Institute of Kenya.

His professional experience includes serving as President of the African Insurance Organisation between 2022 and 2023. He previously chaired the Association of Insurance Trainers and Educators in Africa from 2014 to 2022.

He currently serves on the council of the Africa Re Foundation and the board of the AIO Foundation. He is also an Executive Board Member and Chair of the Human Resource Committee at OESAI, as well as Chairman of the Technical Committee at the Policyholders Compensation Fund.

The latest award marks another milestone in Kajwang's career, which has spanned insurance management, professional development, research and regional industry leadership.
