Hiram Gitau, popularly known as Tash, has broken his silence over allegations that he intended to misuse the KSh 10 million donated to support the children of his late wife, gospel singer Betty Bayo.
Tash addressed the controversy in a video published on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, explaining the proposal he had made to Bayo’s former husband, preacher Victor Kanyari, concerning how the money should be managed.
The donations were made during Betty Bayo’s burial, with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki contributing KSh 5 million and President William Ruto donating another KSh 5 million. According to the report, the combined KSh 10 million was intended to support Bayo’s children.
However, the money became a subject of public disagreement after Kanyari accused Tash of allegedly intending to take control of the funds for his own benefit.
Speaking about the matter during court proceedings, Tash revealed that he had approached Kanyari with a proposal to place the money in a joint trustee account.
According to Tash, the arrangement would ensure that neither of them could access the funds until the children turned 18.
He further explained that the two had met at a place he identified as Glee, where they discussed the proposed arrangement.
Tash maintained that the account was not intended to give him personal control over the money. Instead, he said it would protect the children's interests by ensuring that both parents were unable to withdraw or spend the funds before the agreed time.
He expressed disappointment that Kanyari later went public with allegations suggesting that he wanted to establish an account to misuse the donation.
The widower also defended himself against claims that he was interested in benefiting financially from the children's affairs.
Tash said he had his own sources of income and insisted that he had not spent any of the money earned through brand deals involving the children.
He maintained that the earnings remained in an account and that he had continued taking care of the children.
In his explanation, Tash said he was prepared to account for the money generated through the children's brand activities, insisting that he had not used it for personal expenses.
Tash also revisited his disagreements with Kanyari over access to Betty Bayo's children.
He previously faced accusations that he was preventing the preacher from seeing them. However, Tash maintained that he had allowed the visits and claimed that videos circulating online showed him personally taking the children to Kanyari's gate.
He recalled one particular occasion when Kanyari allegedly brought the children back the same evening, saying they were very nagging and that Tash was the only person who could manage living with them.
Tash said he later questioned Kanyari about continuing to claim publicly that he was being denied access to the children despite such interactions.
According to Tash, Kanyari responded by telling him: "You don't have to worry about me. I'm a content creator."
During the same court related discussion, Tash also responded to a separate disagreement concerning a house allegedly mentioned by Kanyari in court submissions.
Tash disputed the claim that the property was located in Rwanda, maintaining that the house was actually in Kimbo, in an area he identified as Deke.
The revelations come amid ongoing disagreements between the two men over the welfare and custody arrangements of Betty Bayo's children.
While the KSh 10 million donation was intended to benefit the children, Tash's account has brought renewed attention to the dispute over who should manage the funds and how they should be protected until the children reach adulthood.
