  • Gachagua Names Charity Ngilu Kenya’s ‘Iron Lady’ in Martha Karua Jab

Gachagua Names Charity Ngilu Kenya’s ‘Iron Lady’ in Martha Karua Jab

The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader revealed that their talks focused on key historical lessons drawn from the creation of the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC). NARC famously united opposition factions in 2002, bringing an end to KANU’s 24-year rule.

Taking an apparent indirect jab at Martha Karua  – traditionally dubbed the “Iron Lady” – Gachagua described Ngilu as the true “Iron Lady of Kenyan politics.” He credited her with shaping NARC’s winning strategy alongside former President Mwai Kibaki and the late Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa.

According to Gachagua, Ngilu offered valuable details on how key figures negotiated, structured, and mobilized the historic coalition.

He noted that Ngilu shared strategic insights that could prove vital as opposition forces work to challenge the ruling Kenya Kwanza administration in the upcoming election cycle. Beyond electoral strategy, the two leaders deliberated on mechanisms to combat corruption, curb impunity, and guide the nation toward economic growth.

“The lessons I have learnt will be very instrumental. I assure the Kenyan people that I am more knowledgeable and I can clearly see light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

Drawing parallels between the current political landscape and the pre-2002 realignment, Gachagua pointed to how opposition parties joined forces behind Kibaki to defeat then-President Daniel Arap Moi’s backed candidate, Uhuru Kenyatta. He affirmed that opposition leaders are actively coordinating to select a single, formidable flag bearer for the 2027 contest.

“We have a 2002 moment, and our promise is that we shall identify one presidential candidate who will win by a landslide,” Gachagua said.

This sit-down with Ngilu forms part of a broader series of high-level engagements Gachagua has undertaken since returning from his United States tour on October 20. His recent itinerary includes consultations with Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) leader Kalonzo Musyoka and figures tied to the Linda Mwananchi Movement, headed by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna.

These consultative meetings signal accelerating momentum among opposition outfits as they refine coalition structures, line up leadership agreements, and determine their strategy to field a single presidential candidate in 2027.

  • Kwale Residents Return Ruto’s Title Deeds Over Alleged Errors and Land Disputes

Kwale Residents Return Ruto’s Title Deeds Over Alleged Errors and Land Disputes

They said some certificates require holders to pay additional fees before the titles become complete, despite assurances during the issuance exercise that all charges had been paid.

“The title deed reads that it will only be completed when the fee is paid, but when they were being issued, we were told that the amount had been paid. These are titles that to us appear invalid, and as such we are surrendering them back,” said John Kassim, a Lungalunga resident.

Other residents said commercial banks had rejected the documents when they tried to use them to secure loans, with the institutions reportedly questioning their validity and value.

“We have lost hope in them. We expected that we could even use the title deeds to access arrangements like loans, but we cannot,” said resident Moses Makelele.

The residents said they were returning the documents so the government could correct the alleged errors before issuing the titles again. They also questioned the size of the plots, saying some allocations fell short of the land they had previously occupied and expected to own.

The complaints follow similar concerns raised weeks ago by another group of Kwale residents, who rejected title deeds issued under the government’s settlement programme. They said some beneficiaries received plots measuring 50 by 100 despite having occupied and cultivated much larger ancestral parcels.

Residents also raised concerns about land subdivision. They alleged that authorities had allocated some properties to several households as the population grew, leaving some original landowners without title deeds.

The disputes come after President William Ruto issued more than 94,000 title deeds in Kwale County in October as part of efforts to address longstanding land ownership and squatter challenges at the Coast. The exercise included more than 26,000 documents for residents of Lunga Lunga Constituency.

During the event, Ruto said the government aimed to issue 500,000 title deeds to beneficiaries across the Coast by the end of 2026, describing the programme as part of his commitment to resolving the region’s longstanding land issues.

The residents are now calling on the President to cancel the disputed certificates and return to the area to oversee the issuance of corrected title deeds that reflect what they say are their rightful land allocations.

Regina Re Murder Probe: Detectives Reveal What Happened Before Mother’s Death

The four suspects appeared at the High Court at Kibera Law Courts on Monday, November 2, 2026. Detectives had asked to hold them for 15 days at Gigiri Police Station but were granted 10.

The suspects are Regina Wambui Macharia Gitao, Thandie Malaika Wanjiku Gitao, Immanuel Walgwe Munyeki, and Alton Jimmy Macharia. They are being investigated for murder under sections 203 and 204 of the Penal Code and have not been convicted.

In an application filed through the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, investigating officer Police Constable David Njoroge said Dorita Lasinder Macharia was found dead inside her home at Loresho Ridge Estate on the night of October 30. She had a deep cut on the left side of her neck, he told the court.

Njoroge said preliminary inquiries indicated that the deceased had argued with her granddaughter, Thandie, after allegedly finding her with her boyfriend, Alton, in the granddaughter’s bedroom. The elderly woman allegedly ordered Thandie to leave and hand over the room keys and asked several friends who were reportedly at the house to leave.

Police said the deceased later called her son, Jimmy, for help in evicting Thandie. Although Thandie initially left, she allegedly returned and remained in the house with her grandmother for about an hour.

Njoroge told the court that the deceased was later found in a pool of blood. He said Thandie then ran outside, shouting, “She is bleeding!” to friends waiting outside.

The four suspects were arrested at about 2am on October 31 and taken to Gigiri Police Station.

Detectives said they needed more time to review estate CCTV footage, conduct forensic examinations, collect fingerprints and mobile phone call records, and record statements from key witnesses. They also plan to arrange a postmortem examination and submit the investigation file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for directions.

The investigating officer said the suspects had indicated they might provide information leading to the arrest of other alleged accomplices who remain at large. Police argued that releasing them before the investigations were complete could hinder inquiries into the killing.

The court granted the detectives 10 days to continue their investigations.

Autopsy Reveals How Regina Re’s Mother Dorita Macharia Died

An autopsy has established that Regina Re’s mother, Dorita Macharia, died from severe external bleeding after sustaining multiple stab wounds, including two deep injuries to the neck.

Government pathologist Dr Bernard Midia, who conducted the postmortem examination, said the wounds damaged blood vessels in Macharia’s neck, resulting in heavy blood loss.

Speaking on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Midia disclosed that the examination also revealed several other sharp-force injuries on different parts of her body.

“The injury consisted of multiple stab wounds to the neck with injury to the blood vessels, which led to severe external bleeding. Two deep stab wounds in the neck. There were also other sharp force injuries, cut wounds to various parts of the body,” Midia said.

The postmortem examination was conducted at Lee Funeral Home in the presence of lawyers representing Macharia’s family and those representing the suspects.

The process lasted more than two hours, with the doctors who carried out the examination also present at the facility.

Midia said the injuries were not confined to the neck, with the examination revealing additional wounds on various parts of Macharia’s body.

The findings identified severe external bleeding caused by damage to blood vessels in the neck as the cause of death.

Macharia died on Friday evening, October 30, 2026, prompting police to launch investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death.

The case took a new turn on Monday, November 2, when former television presenter Regina Re and three other relatives were presented in court as detectives sought more time to investigate the killing.

The four were identified as Regina, her brother Antony Jimmy Macharia, her granddaughter Thandie Malaika Wanjiku Gitao and Thandie’s boyfriend, Immanuel Waigwe Munyeki.

Police had asked the court to allow them additional time to complete investigations into the circumstances surrounding Macharia’s death.

The autopsy findings now provide further details about the injuries she sustained before her death as detectives continue gathering evidence.
