Gospel DJ and entertainer DJ Mo has found himself dealing with a traffic case after a routine drive along Thika Road turned into a court appearance.

The musician, whose real name is Samuel Muraya, appeared before the Milimani Chief Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, November 4, following an encounter with traffic police.

The case attracted attention after DJ Mo explained that his vehicle insurance had expired just a day before the incident. He admitted that he had overlooked the renewal, a mistake that eventually resulted in legal trouble.

According to the court proceedings, the entertainer was driving his Jaguar near Roasters along Thika Road at around 8:55am when he was stopped by a traffic officer.

He was accused of driving without valid third party insurance and failing to comply with instructions from a police officer.

The second allegation arose after he allegedly failed to follow directions to take his vehicle to a police station.

While addressing the circumstances surrounding the incident, DJ Mo said he had been rushing to collect his sick child from school.

The entertainer explained that the insurance had expired the previous day and that he had forgotten to renew it.

The situation also affected his travel plans. DJ Mo reportedly told the court that he missed a scheduled flight because of the incident.

His explanation brought attention to the importance of checking vehicle documents before travelling, particularly when insurance renewal dates are approaching.

The court proceedings ended with DJ Mo being fined for the offences.

Senior Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo reportedly imposed a Ksh 3,000 fine for the insurance offence and an additional Ksh 2,000 for the other charge.

The total fine amounted to Ksh 5,000.

The incident adds an unexpected chapter to the entertainer’s day, which had initially involved an ordinary journey along one of Nairobi’s busy highways.

For motorists, the case highlights the importance of keeping insurance documents valid and following lawful instructions from traffic officers.
