Veteran Kenyan journalist Yvonne Okwara has dismissed reports suggesting her new role will require her to relocate to London.

In an exclusive statement shared with TUKO.co.ke, she clarified that she remains based in Nairobi despite joining the London-headquartered Shuga Global as Head of Investments and Partnerships.

Celeb Digest: Kanyari's little-known daughter speaks, Yvonne Okwara's new salary revealed
The pushback came just days after two major announcements rocked the local media industry.
On Tuesday, 27 October 2026, Okwara signed off from Citizen TV live on air during her final hosting of The Explainer, drawing the curtain on eight and a half years at the station.
During that time, she built a formidable reputation as a senior news anchor and business editor, fronting Tonight and featuring prominently on the News Gang political discussion segment.
She was also the face behind several high-profile political interviews and moderated presidential debates.
In her farewell remarks, Okwara was clear that stepping away from the newsroom did not mean stepping away from social impact work. It was a transition, she said, into a new kind of leadership.
The very next day, on Wednesday, 28 October 2026, Shuga Global announced her appointment as Head of Investments and Partnerships.
In the role, she will lead the organisation's efforts to forge strategic partnerships, scout investment opportunities and mobilise resources to scale its youth-focused programmes.

Shuga Global: Linus Kaikai reacts to Yvonne Okwara’s new high paying job after exiting Citizen TV
Part of her mandate will also involve steering Shuga Global towards more sustainable funding models, reducing its historical dependence on traditional grants.
Shuga Global, formerly known as the MTV Staying Alive Foundation before rebranding in April 2026, is the organisation behind the widely recognised Shuga drama franchise.
It uses storytelling, media and youth engagement to tackle sexual health, HIV prevention and broader social challenges affecting young people.
The relocation rumours appear to have stemmed from Shuga Global's origins as a London-headquartered organisation.
However, Okwara's clarification makes clear that the group's global base has since shifted to Nairobi, making her appointment a local one despite the organisation's international reach.
For Okwara, the move marks the end of roughly 20 years on the frontline of broadcast journalism and the beginning of a career chapter centred on investment strategy and organisational growth.

.ke also highlighted how Linus Kaikai, Okwara's former boss at Citizen TV, reacted to her new job.
He had earlier expressed sadness over losing her from his newsroom team, explaining the significant impact she had made during her time at the station.

Who Is Regina Re? Former Who’s Smarter Now? Presenter Held Over Mother’s Death
Regina Re is a familiar name to many Kenyans of a certain generation who grew up watching the television quiz show Who’s Smarter Now?, where she became a household face between 1999 and 2006.
Known for her confident presentation style and trademark farewell, “toodles”, Regina built a career in television before branching out into acting, image consultancy and performance coaching.
The former presenter is now back in the spotlight following the death of her 86-year-old mother, Dorita Lasinder Macharia, at her home in Loresho, Nairobi, and a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Regina is among four people being held as detectives pursue investigations into the death.
Regina, whose full name has been reported as Regina Wambui Gitau, rose to prominence as the presenter of Who’s Smarter Now?, a television quiz show that challenged contestants on general knowledge.
The programme ran for seven years, from 1999 to 2006, making her a recognisable personality in Kenyan households.
Her lively presentation style and signature sign-off, “toodles”, became closely associated with her television career.
After leaving the quiz show, Regina explored opportunities beyond television presenting, developing an interest in image consultancy and performance coaching.
Drawing on her background in psychology and mass communication, she ventured into areas such as personal branding, public speaking, etiquette and helping individuals improve their professional presentation.
Regina also ventured into acting, appearing in several local television and film productions.
Among the productions associated with her career is Makutano Junction, where she portrayed Hope Baraka.
She also featured in Pieces of Us, A Better Life and The Inside Story.
In 2023, she appeared in the Showmax Christmas film A Merry X-Mess, playing the character Zawadi Nyati.
Her career has therefore extended across several fields, including television presenting, acting, image consultancy and performance coaching.
Regina is among four people being held by police as detectives investigate the death of her mother, Dorita Lasinder Macharia, who was found dead at her Loresho home on Friday, October 30, 2026.
The 86-year-old reportedly had a deep cut on her neck, with investigators seeking to establish what led to her death.
During court proceedings on Monday, November 2, detectives presented preliminary findings indicating that a disagreement had allegedly occurred between Dorita and her granddaughter, Thandie Malaika Wanjiku Gitao, before the incident.
The court also heard police allegations that Regina and her brother, Antony Jimmy Macharia, were found at the home apparently attempting to clean the room where their mother had been killed.
The other two individuals being held are Thandie and her boyfriend, Immanuel Waigwe Munyeki.
Police requested more time to complete investigations, including collecting CCTV footage, recording witness statements and gathering forensic evidence.
The court granted detectives 10 days to detain the four as investigations continue. The matter is scheduled for mention on November 12, 2026.

Liam Fitzgerald’s family says he ‘battled with alcohol’ in heartbreaking tribute as creator dies from severe injuries
Liam Fitzgerald’s devastated family have spoken out for the first time since his tragic death, opening up about the influencer’s ‘battle with alcohol on and off’ during his life.
The fitness content creator sadly passed away on 30 October after being involved in a motorcycle accident. He was just 29.
Confirming his death, his heart-broken girlfriend Jamie Lyn Rinaldi said he’d died at around 2am after he sustained ‘severe injuries’ in the crash.
“Despite the efforts of those who tried desperately to save him, they were unable to bring him back,” she wrote on Instagram.
Liam’s heartbroken family have now broken their silence in a touching tribute to the ‘one-of-a-kind’ influencer who had ‘so much more life to live’.
“There are no words to describe the loss of someone as special as Liam,” the statement shared on Liam’s Instagram read.
“Liam was a shining light. He had a way of lighting up every room he walked into, a personality impossible to forget, and a heart that loved deeply. From family and friends to teammates, strangers, and people around the world, he inspired so many. He loved his people fiercely and would protect them with everything he had.”
His family went on to praise his ‘incredible’ work ethic and how he would set his mind to something and then ‘gave it everything’.
Liam, who lived in Miami, had more than a million social media followers and shared fitness and lifestyle content as well as offering one-on-one fitness coaching.
“He was talented at just about anything he tried and so proud of the life he was building and everything he accomplished,” his family said.
“He loved filming, creating, and editing videos to share his experiences and inspire others. He wanted us to believe that no matter how hard life gets, you can always get back up and become a better version of yourself.”
The family then shared that Liam had his ‘own struggles’, which he tackled during his life.
“He battled with alcohol on and off and knew it was hurting him,” they said.
“This is shared in the hope that his story reaches someone who needs it. If you're fighting that battle, please stay strong, reach out to your loved ones, and ask for help. You don't have to fight alone. Keep going.
“He wasn't perfect, and never pretended to be. But he always strived to grow and do better. He had dreams, ambitions, and so much more life to live.”
The family said his death had left behind a heartbreak that ‘words will never be able to describe’ but that his ‘laughter, energy, accomplishments, and the memories he created will live on’.
The statement concluded by urging people to keep Liam’s loved ones in their thoughts and to ‘hug your people’, tell them you love them and ‘never assume you have more time’.
“Liam, you were one of a kind. You shined so bright, and the world is dimmer without you here,” it added.
“Fly high. You will never be forgotten.”

Sam Fender lights up John Lewis 2026 Christmas advert with iconic Rolling Stones cover
Well LADs, it’s officially that time of year: the John Lewis advert is here.
And 2026 marks the 20th edition of its iconic Christmas ad, so they’ve pulled out all the stops and given us a banger of a tune to go with this year.
That’s as king of the North East is providing vocals – yep the one and only Sam Fender is this year’s choice.
Hoping for a Christmas number one, he covers The Rolling Stones’ classic ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’. Fender has called this opportunity a ‘privilege’ with all proceeds from the record going to charity.
Releasing today (3 November), the John Lewis advert features Dame Kristin Scott Thomas alongside ‘Pickles the dog’, an old school toy from the retailer voiced by TV royalty, Paul Whitehouse.
The campaign, created by Saatchi & Saatchi and the ad directed by Lucy Forbes, follows Gloria (Scott Thomas) and her faithful companion (and childhood toy) Pickles, on a hunt to connect with her grandchildren,
“Set against the festive tagline ‘Don’t give up on giving,’ the story touches on a relatable modern truth: the fear of not finding the ‘perfect gift’ can overshadow the simple pleasure of giving something thoughtful this festive season,” John Lewis explains.
And that’s where ‘You Can’t Always Get What You Want’ comes in perfectly.
It honestly feels like a banger for the retailer, likely to get in everyone’s heads these next few weeks – following Fender’s record-breaking success with ‘Rein Me In’ around the world.
The singer said: “It was a privilege to rework such an iconic song by such a legendary band. In the spirit of Christmas, we re-recorded the children’s choir with the kids from my old school, John Spence Community High School, and we arranged a brass section with the Easington Colliery Band.”
It’s a bit of a full circle too, with Rolling Stones’ Mick Jagger having spoken earlier this year about his admiration for Fender.
“I’m a fan of Sam’s work, so I was pleased to hear he was covering one of my songs. I think he’s done a great job with it,” the rock legend said.
Well LADs, keep an eye out for the ad on your tellies and social media and I’m sure it won’t be long until ‘You Can’t Get Always What You Want’ is being played at every possible opportunity.
The song is being released today, and physical copies will be available soon on 7” and CD from the John Lewis website. The single is backed with Sam Fender’s 2020 cover of Winter Song, available physically for the first time.
All John Lewis profits from each record sold will be donated to UK leading charity Action for Children, John Lewis' charity partner for its Building Happier Futures programme.
Physical copies will also be available from https://shop.samfender.com/. All profits from the physical sales via Fender’s store will be donated to Teenage Cancer Trust.

Lenny Kravitz’s team responds to rumours singer died in fatal Florida plane crash
Representatives of Lenny Kravitz have issued a statement debunking rumours that the musician was on a Learjet which crashed in Florida.
Nine people, including two crew and seven passengers, were on the plane, with officials confirming that everyone on board the plane was killed in the crash near West Palm Beach on November 1.
Shortly after a the tragedy a screenshot began to circulate on social media which claimed that the pilot flying the plane had posted that she was flying Lenny Kravitz on this route.
Pilot Emily Shelton wrote in the post: “Honored to be flying the one and only Lenny Kravitz from AUS [in Austin] to ELH [in the Bahamas] tomorrow.
“Looking forward to having him on board! ‘It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over’ is going to be playing in the cockpit.”
Shelton is not the pilot who was flying the plane involved in the crash, who has been named in the New York Post as Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, while another pilot has not yet been publicly identified.
Now, a representative of Kravitz has said that the rumours he was on the flight are 'untrue and incorrect'.
The passengers who had been travelling on the flight have not been identified publicly at the time of writing.
Shelton has also made a subsequent post on social media after the crash in an effort to debunk the false claims, saying that she was not the pilot on the flight involved in the crash.
"I was recently made aware that there are rumours that I was the pilot of the recent crash in Palm Beach," she said in a post shared to TikTok.
"I would like to respectfully clarify I was not. I ask that people please stop speculating and spreading misinformation on this tragedy and be respectful of those involved.
"My heart goes out to all those lost and affected.”
In a press conference on 2 November NTSB Member Tom Chapman gave additional information about the tragedy, including shared by the aircraft with air traffic control, including reports of 'ice and turbulence' which was 'certainly a factor'.
Chapman explained that the crew had described the ice as light, while the turbulence was manageable.
"The crew transmitted that they were at 35,000 feet with moderate turbulence with altitude deviations of about 700 feet," said Chapman.
The crew reported the outside temperature was -47 Celsius, which is -53 Fahrenheit, and they were managing the ice but were in moderate turbulence.
"Very soon after the crew transmitted 'we are picking up precipitation requesting to climb to 37,000 feet if able', which was approved by FAA air traffic control.
"Less than 30 seconds later a transmission from the aeroplane announced the descent followed by a Mayday call about 12:48 Eastern, the aeroplane transmitted 'we are in an overspeed condition descending' with the rest unintelligible.
"Subsequent communications described that the aeroplane was descending rapidly and gave an altitude callout. Sadly all aboard were lost."
He added: "Our investigators will work to thoroughly document relevant evidence and gather additional factual information," he told the press conference.
"Our mission is to understand not just what happened but what happened and to recommend changes to prevent it from happening again.
"We will not be determining the probable cause of the crash while we’re here on scene nor will we speculate about the cause."

Wayne Rooney will have to abide by I’m A Celeb rule before show starts that ITV can’t enforce
Wayne Rooney is set to follow in wife Coleen's footsteps by entering I'm A Celebrity later this month – but he is in a unique position before his trip to the Australian jungle when it comes to one of ITV's pre-show rules.
According to The Sun, the Manchester United and England legend is one of the 12 celebrities who have signed up for the 2026 edition of the show, which gets underway on November 16.
He'll have to adhere to a number of protocols before entering the jungle, including a psychological evaluation, as well as informing I'm A Celeb bosses about whether there are any trials he would not be able to complete on medical grounds. But there is one specific rule that he might technically not be able to avoid.
In theory, campmates are not supposed to tell anybody that they are entering the jungle before the line-up is officially announced by ITV.
But, The Sun claim, they are also not supposed to seek advice from previous campmates on how to deal with certain aspects of the Australian jungle. Given that Rooney, of course, lives in the same house as his wife, a former contestant, that presents a unique scenario for him compared to the other contestants – though it's a rule that ITV, understandably, don't appear to be too interested about as they have no way of enforcing it.
Though Rooney never visited the camp himself while Coleen was on the show because he was manager of Plymouth Argyle at the time, their two youngest children Kit and Cass did make the trip to Australia with Coleen's mother – so he will no doubt be aware of some of the goings-on in camp that the cameras don't show.
Actor Danny Thomas, who won the 2022 edition of I'm A Celebrity and plays Aaron Dingle in Emmerdale, revealed that he had sought advice from his former co-star Adam Thomas, who himself entered the jungle back in 2016, and won I'm A Celeb South Africa earlier this year.
"I confided in Adam about me taking part as he is one of my best friends in the world," Miller said. "I feel like I am a step ahead as I've asked him questions about what it will be like."
And Martin Kemp appeared on I'm A Celeb in 2025 – six years after his son, Roman, entered the camp. He admitted that Roman had given him advice about what to do in camp.
Pussycat Dolls singer Ashley Roberts, another former contestant, revealed on Heart Radio earlier this year that celebrities can't 'ask for too much advice'.
Once Rooney gets in the jungle, he will not have to do more than two trials consecutively after a new rule was introduced by ITV last year. He will also be banned from using his mobile phone – meaning that winning a Dingo Dollar Challenge midway through the show will be his only opportunity to see the football scores.
While ITV have not yet officially confirmed the 12 celebrities that will be travelling to Australia later this month, the full list has been leaked early – and there are a number of well-known faces alongside Rooney.
Joanna Page, who played Stacey Shipman in the hit sitcom Gavin and Stacey, is among the reported contestants, as well as Kaiser Chiefs lead singer Ricky Wilson, actress Claire Sweeney and comedian Leigh Francis (a.k.a. Keith Lemon).
Former Paralympic bronze medalist Ade Adepitan, meanwhile, is set to make history as the first-ever wheelchair user to take part in I'm A Celebrity.
It was speculated as far back as July that the TV presenter was in talks to enter the camp, with ITV bosses said to have been exploring ways in which to adapt the camp. The 53-year-old contracted polio as a child, which damaged both of his legs. He has paralysis in his left leg and partial use of his right leg.
Full list of reported I'm A Celebrity 2026 contestants
Ade Adepitan – TV presenter and former wheelchair basketball player
