The cheapest ticket categories, which had attracted considerable interest from supporters, were exhausted shortly after the online ticketing platform went live, signalling overwhelming demand for the historic encounter.

Tickets priced at KSh2,500, KSh3,500 and KSh5,000 had already been marked as sold out by 9pm, following the opening of sales at 7pm through the official Talanta Sports City website.

With the affordable categories exhausted, supporters still hoping to attend the January 5, 2027 spectacle will have to dig deeper into their pockets, with the remaining regular tickets priced at KSh15,000 and KSh20,000.

According to figures displayed on the ticketing platform at 9pm, only 731 tickets remained in the KSh15,000 category, while the KSh20,000 section had 1,792 seats available. The VIP section had just 113 tickets remaining.

The rapid uptake underscores the excitement surrounding the arrival of the two European football giants in Nairobi for the official opening of the 60,000-seater Raila Odinga International Stadium.

President William Ruto announced the historic fixture on October 28, confirming that Bayern Munich and Ajax Amsterdam would face off in an international friendly at the newly constructed facility.

The match is expected to attract thousands of football enthusiasts, with both clubs boasting impressive European football histories. Bayern Munich have won six UEFA Champions League titles, while Ajax have lifted the prestigious trophy four times.

Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya has urged supporters to purchase tickets exclusively through authorised channels, warning against fraudsters seeking to exploit the growing demand.

The encounter will also feature a 12-hour fan festival, international musical performances and other entertainment activities designed to turn the stadium's inauguration into a major sporting spectacle.

Kick-off is scheduled for 8:15pm, with gates expected to open at 11am to allow fans sufficient time to access the facility.

The match will provide a major international test for Kenya as the country prepares to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

The stadium's inauguration is therefore shaping up to be more than just a football match, with the rapid disappearance of the cheapest tickets offering an early indication of the enormous public interest in the occasion.
