A sharp political debate has emerged in the aftermath of the violent disruption of an opposition campaign rally in Migori Town.

According to an official statement published on X by Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly Robert Alai who is prominent Orange Democratic Movement figures, haz criticized Wiper Democratic Movement leader Kalonzo Musyoka for his choice of political companions during his Nyanza tour.

Weighing in on the incident, Robert Alai has faulted the Wiper party leader for traveling to the region alongside lawyer Ndegwa Njiru and former National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi.

The ODM politician has argued that Kalonzo Musyoka should not have toured Nyanza in the company of the two leaders, claiming that neither Ndegwa Njiru nor Justin Muturi has historically recognized or valued the interests of the local population.

He has maintained that local political actors have found it difficult to tolerate their presence within the region, linking regional friction to their inclusion in the entourage.

This critical assessment has followed a violent altercation in Migori Town where hired goons pelted stones and smashed vehicle windshields, including that of Justin Muturi.

Kalonzo Musyoka and his team have previously condemned the ambush, pointing out that police officers have deployed teargas directly into their peaceful procession.

Following the melee, former Speaker Justin Muturi also publicly accused Suna East MP Junet Mohamed of organizing the disruptive group, an allegation that has sparked heated responses from various leaders, including Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and Raila Odinga Junior.

Robert Alai’s remarks have added a distinct perspective to the ongoing discourse surrounding the attack.

While several leaders across the political spectrum have condemned the violence and advocated for democratic tolerance, the Kileleshwa MCA has focused his critique on the underlying political dynamics and regional sensitivities associated with the visiting delegation.

Despite the criticism and the chaotic disruption experienced in Migori Town, the leadership of the Ukombozi movement has maintained that their scheduled rallies across neighboring counties have remained active as planned.
