Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has strongly condemned the attack on Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in Migori, where the opposition leader was reportedly targeted during a rally. In a statement, Babu described the incident as cowardly and barbaric.
According to Babu, political intolerance, violence and hooliganism have no place in a constitutional democracy. He insisted that such acts should never be accepted in a country that prides itself on the rule of law, no matter which side of the political divide is involved.
The legislator went on to say that democracy must be defended through ideas and not violence. He argued that leaders should win the hearts of Kenyans through dialogue and not intimidation, and that the ballot remains the only fair way of settling political differences.
His message was a call to all politicians and their supporters to keep campaigns peaceful as the country moves toward the 2027 General Election.
The attack comes shortly after Kalonzo announced his tour of Homa Bay and Migori, part of a wider push by opposition leaders to take their message to different regions.
It also follows recent incidents of chaos linked to political activity, including the reported attack on the vehicle of Hon Jared Nyakundi outside a Kisii radio station, which have raised concern among residents.
Many Kenyans have joined the chorus of condemnation online, with some calling for security agencies to investigate and bring those responsible to book.
Others say the growing wave of violence is a worrying sign of what could lie ahead if leaders fail to rein in their supporters. For now, the focus remains on the safety of politicians and the need to keep the political space open for everyone.
