Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has announced a series of security interventions targeting criminal gangs, abductions, illegal alcohol and drug abuse across Kenya.
The CS revealed that the government was prioritising the dismantling of criminal gangs to restore security and protect communities from intimidation.
He said the initiative would also help create a peaceful environment where Kenyans can exercise their democratic rights without fear.
According to Murkomen, the government wants every Kenyan to participate freely in elections without threats, intimidation or interference from criminal elements.
The announcement comes as political temperatures continue to attract attention, with security remaining a major concern ahead of future electoral contests.
Murkomen further disclosed that authorities had intensified operations against illicit alcohol, drugs and substance abuse, which continue to threaten communities.
He described the problem as a serious danger to public health, community safety and the future of young people.
The Interior Ministry is seeking to strengthen the fight against illegal substances, which have been linked to social problems affecting families and communities.
In another significant announcement, Murkomen revealed that the government had established a dedicated Anti-Abduction Investigations Unit
The specialised unit is expected to handle investigations involving abductions and kidnappings, strengthening the country's response to such incidents.
Its establishment could mark an important step in addressing public concerns over missing persons and reported abduction cases.
Murkomen also outlined another administrative reform targeting service delivery, particularly in communities that depend on grassroots government structures
The initiative is expected to enhance communication between residents and government administrators while bringing essential administrative services closer to ordinary Kenyans.
The CS maintained that the interventions were part of wider efforts to strengthen national security and improve the government's response to public concerns.
His briefing places renewed attention on the government's approach to criminal gangs, election security, abductions and substance abuse.
However, the effectiveness of these measures will ultimately depend on implementation, accountability and the ability of security agencies to deliver tangible results.
Murkomen's latest announcement comes as Kenyans continue looking to the government for stronger security measures and improved protection of their fundamental rights.
