ODM party leader Oburu Oginga, has said that those who wished him dead only made him stronger and more determined to fight his illness, assuring supporters that he is steadily recovering and will soon return to active politics.

Recounting the difficult moments he endured while in hospital, following widespread fake reports on social media declaring him dead, Oburu said God had put the devil to shame by keeping him alive.

“Those who wrote me off while I was in hospital by declaring me dead only made me stronger and more determined to fight my sickness. Here I am, recovering and growing stronger by the day,” said the Siaya Senator.

He said his illness had slowed down his political activities but assured supporters that his return to the political arena was imminent.

“The sickness slowed my political activities. Very soon, I will be back, roaring in the best way I know how,” the Siaya Senator said.

Oburu spoke at his Nairobi home when National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and his Senate counterpart Amason Kingi led a delegation of Members of Parliament from both Houses in visiting him as he recuperates following his discharge from hospital.

Expressing gratitude for the visit, Oburu said he was deeply touched by the gesture from the two Speakers and fellow legislators.

“I have no words to explain my feelings after the Speakers of both Houses and fellow legislators created time to come and check on me,” he said.

He further expressed his longing to return to parliamentary debates and active political engagements, urging his supporters to continue praying for him and exercise patience as he completes his recovery.

“I miss being on the floor of the House debating and roaring in the political arena. I urge my supporters to pray for me and be patient because soon I will be back,” the Senator said.

Oburu kept his visiting colleagues entertained with his trademark humour and jokes, assuring them that he was determined to roar back into action, even as he acknowledged that his illness had temporarily slowed his political pace.

The two speakers condemned bloggers and social media users who circulated false reports about Dr. Oburu's death while he was receiving treatment at a Nairobi hospital.

Wetang’ula said they were encouraged by Oburu's remarkable progress since his discharge and wished him a speedy and full recovery.

He, however, urged him to prioritise his health and avoid rushing back into political engagements before making a full recovery.

“Prioritise your health and avoid rushing back into political engagements before making a full recovery,” Wetang’ula advised, as he commended Oburu's courage and determination in confronting his medical challenge.

Kingi, said the Senate fraternity missed Oburu's contributions to parliamentary proceedings, debates and national political discourse.

“As the Senate, we miss your contributions to proceedings and debates, as well as your guidance in national politics. We pray that you get better and resume your political duties as soon as possible,” he said.

Senators present included Chief Whip David Wakoli, Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo, William Kipsang and Daniel Maanzo.

Other Members of Parliament who accompanied Speaker Wetang’ula included Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo, Parliamentary Commissioner Mishi Mboko and Eve Obara.
