National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and Senate Speaker Amason Kingi led lawmakers from both Houses of Parliament in visiting the recuperating Siaya Senator on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Oburu was recently discharged from hospital after receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness. The legislators visited him to encourage him and wish him a quick recovery.
Speaking during the visit, Wetang’ula said the delegation was pleased with Oburu’s improving condition but urged him not to rush back into political activities before fully recovering.
He praised the ODM leader for his determination in dealing with his health challenges, encouraging him to give priority to his well-being.
In response, Oburu thanked the two Speakers and the legislators for taking time to check on him, describing their visit as a gesture that had deeply touched him.
The veteran politician also dismissed social media reports that had falsely announced his death while he was receiving treatment, saying the claims had instead strengthened his determination to overcome his illness.
"Those who wrote me off while I was in hospital by declaring me dead only made me stronger and more determined to fight my sickness. Here I am, recovering and growing stronger by the day," he said.
Oburu maintained that his absence from political engagements was temporary, promising to return to the political scene once he completes his recovery.
He also revealed that he missed parliamentary debates and other political activities, asking supporters to continue praying for him as he recuperates.
Kingi, meanwhile, said the Senate fraternity was missing Oburu's contributions to parliamentary debates and national political discussions.
The delegation included Senate Chief Whip David Wakoli, Senate Minority Leader Stewart Madzayo, William Kisang, Daniel Maanzo, National Assembly Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo, Mishi Mboko and Eve Obara.
The visit came amid growing public interest in Oburu's health and his expected return to leadership duties within ODM.
