FUEL PRICES REDUCES FURTHER

The national regulator, the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (Ewura), has announced the wholesale and retail prices of petrol and diesel have been reduced in Tanzania this month.

According to a statement issued by Ewura’s director-general James Mwainyekule, the retail prices of petrol, diesel, and kerosene imported through Dar es Salaam port have decreased compared to the prices published on March 1, 2023.

The new prices are Tsh2,781 ($1.18) for petrol, Tsh2,847 ($1.21) for diesel, and Tsh2,929 ($1.24) for kerosene per litre in Dar es Salaam. However, Kyerwa District in Kagera region has the highest prices, where petrol costs Tsh3,019 ($1.28), diesel Tsh3,084 ($1.31), and kerosene Tsh3,167 ($1.34) per litre.

Furthermore, in the northern regions of Tanga, Kilimanjaro, Arusha, and Manyara, the retail prices for petrol and diesel in April 2023 have decreased by Tsh158 (US$ 0.067) and Tsh231 (US$ 0.098) per litre, respectively.

Moreover, due to the depletion of kerosene at the Tanga storage terminal, petrol station operators in the northern regions are advised to source kerosene from Dar es Salaam. The retail prices of kerosene for those regions are based on the cost of the product received through Dar es Salaam port and the transport cost to the respective regions.

According to the statement, retail prices for petrol and diesel in the southern regions of Mtwara, Lindi, and Ruvuma have decreased by Tsh220 ($0.093) and Tsh176 ($0.075) per litre, respectively, in April 2023.

The statement also advised petrol station operators in the southern regions to obtain kerosene from Dar es Salaam due to its unavailability at Mtwara storage terminals.

Additionally, the Tanzania energy regulator pointed out that prices vary between locations because of differences in recommended loading ports and transportation costs.
