HOW TO APPLY FOR A JOB IN MOMBASA COUNTY

Mombasa County Government will recruit 2,000 young people as beach marshalls to help in regulating activities on the coastal city’s beaches.

According to a statement issued by Governor Abdulswamad Nassir on Tuesday, December 27, the recruitment will also include traffic marshalls and lifeguards.

He asserted that this move would help to ensure safety and tranquillity in the wake of the Pirates Beach tragedy that claimed the lives of two tourists on Sunday, December 25.

“We are recruiting 2,000 young people to supplement the existing County staff and serve as beach Marshalls, traffic Marshalls, lifeguards, tour guides as well as other experiential service providers to ensure your stay in Mombasa is memorable,” the statement read in part.

According to him, the new team will commence their operations on Wednesday, December 28. They will be donned in branded attires to enable members of the public to identify them.

Further, Governor Nassir lauded volunteers who rushed to the scene and expedited rescue activities that prevented further loss of lives.

The county chief also assured that Mombasa’s quick response teams were vigilant and ready to assist in case of any eventuality.

“We urge the public to cooperate with these branded officials once they commence their services on Wednesday and do not hesitate to reach out in the event you require any assistance. They are here to serve,” he assured.

Kenya’s main coastal city experienced an influx of tourists, both local and foreigners,  during the festive season as they toured various destinations.

Whereas the influx presented a boom to businesses in the region, the high population exposed unprecedented risks to authorities and amenities that risked turning hazardous.

In response to the Christmas day tragedy, Maritime Affairs cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya announced a ban on recreational activities on the beaches beyond 5:30 pm.

The CS also called for responsibility from the public to avert the dangers caused by negligence in their recreation activities.
