Woman Burns her Husband’s Debtor With Boiling Water

A woman from Mombasa is accused of burning her husband’s debtor with hot boiling water when she came to collect the menial debt.

The wife, identified as Cecilia Muuo splashed hot water on the lady’s body leaving her with 60% burns. The complainant has been identified as Faith Chelang’at.

Cecilia was arraigned in court on Thursday, December 22nd where she pleaded not guilty to all charges against her.

According to Faith who has been hospitalized following the incident, she had gone to the offender’s house seeking to meet with her husband for the Sh. 200 debt settlement. The petty cash that he owed her, she had planned to use to buy supper that evening.

Cecilia Muuo informed Faith that her husband was not in the house at that moment. She also welcomed Faith to stay for a while and wait for her debtor to return.

Thereafter, Cecilia went into the kitchen and began to prepare supper while Faith remained in the living room watching television. Allegedly, instead of making supper, Cecilia boiled hot water that she claimed was for making ugali.

She patiently waited for the water to reach boiling point before pouring it all on her visitor who was just chilling in the living room. Cecilia Muuo further warned the visitor to stay a mile away from her husband.

The attack victim screamed and wreathed in pain. Neighbors around came flooding in and took her to Coast General Hospital where she is steadily healing. Faith Chelang’at, the victim, pressed charges against her assailant in court.

When the charges were read in court, Cecilia pleaded ‘not guilty’ to all charges. She also denied knowing who the victim of the attack was.

“Your honor, I’m not guilty of the said charges. It is a lie. I don’t think I know this woman,” she told Mombasa Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet.

When the magistrate asked her why she attacked her victim with boiling water over a Sh. 200 debt that didn’t involve her, she echoed her words in denial of knowing Faith Chelang’at.

“Your honor, I really don’t know this woman. I have never seen her. Maybe she is out of her mind. How can I burn someone who I have never met before without a reason. She should think carefully on who did that to her instead of accusing me falsely,” she reiterated.

Cecilia has been granted release bond of Sh. 50,000. The matter has been scheduled for a court hearing session on January 11th, 2023.
