LIST OF DIPLOMA COURSES WHICH ARE NOW EQUIVALENT TO BACHELOR’S DEGREE

The Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has upgraded the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) higher national diploma, eliciting mixed reaction from Kenyans.

The authority has now upgraded KMTC’s higher national diploma to KNQA level 7, which effectively makes it equivalent to a university degree (Bachelor’s Degree), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) III and Certified Public Secretary (CPS).

“In the past, we only looked at the number of credits a student has earned throughout the study, but now we factor in competency,” KNQA Director General Dr Juma Mukhwana said when he delivered the accreditation certificate to KMTC on Friday, October 28.

On her part, acting KNQA Chairperson Rosemary Njogu said: “We acknowledge and appreciate the impact that KMTC has had in safeguarding the health of millions of Kenyans and beyond our border.”

She added: “Keeping in mind that the College’s courses are designed to build critical medical skills while incorporating the effective use of modern technology, the accreditation as a QAI will bear significance in Kenya’s medical field and the African Health Sector by extension.”

Kenyans react…
Until you do 17 units at a go in a semester, you can’t appreciate KMTC Diplomas. I have done those degrees and I have been to KMTC. KMTC should be equated to MBA.

I am yet to understand how a Higher National Diploma (HND) course from KMTC taking Atleast 18 months can be Equivalent to Bachelors Degree taking 4 years minus internship.

Something must be wrong in this country.

Instead of equating KMTC with University degrees, why don’t you just disband all of them and make them one?
University should be respected and handled with decorum. Otherwise, mediocrity is not something worth celebrating!
