Popular ODM politician is dead. ODM Nominated MCA Phaustine Werimo died on Thursday, October 27 afternoon.

ODM Nominated MCA in Kakamega County Assembly, Phaustine Werimo, is dead.

Werimo died on Thursday, October 27 evening, exactly one month and 6 days after she was sworn into office.

Close family members told a local media house Werimo had been admitted at Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu for an operation scheduled later this week to remove a clot in her leg. However, she went for a short call and collapsed.

Preliminary investigations show her blood pressure was high at the time and could have led to her death.

ODM, Governor mourn MCA
Describing her as a dedicated member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), the Raila Odinga-led party says that it has lost a gallant soldier.

“We are saddened by the news of the passing on of Hon. Phaustine Werimo (Kakamega County Assembly) this afternoon. Phaustine was a dedicated member of our party & member of ODM Women League where she played a big role. We pray for the family, friends & relatives during this trying moment.”

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa says Werimo’s death has robbed the county a human rights champion who possessed the experience and skills in legislating policies to protect children, women and the vulnerable in the society.

“She was an astute politician…who worked tirelessly to deliver not only my victory in the just concluded elections, but also of other candidates in Kakemega County.

“On behalf of Kakamega County, I hereby pass our heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the late Hon Phaustine Werimo and pray that the almighty God comforts you during this difficult time,” Governor Barasa says.

Werimo alias Mama Nyundo is among 30 MCAs who were nominated in 2022 bringing to a total of 90 MCAs in Kakamega County Assembly.

Her body has been moved from Agha Khan Kisumu to Kakamega County Referral Hospital morgue.
