NEW TWIST ON APPROVAL OF CSs NOMINEES AS 5 ARE REJECTED.

MPs at the National Assembly have embarked on the heated discussion of approving  Cabinet nominees that underwent vetting last week.

The MPs will also engage in voting to save or ‘completely ruin’ Tourism CS Nominee Penina Malonza, who was unanimously rejected by the Committee of Appointments

However, during the approval debate, a dramatic moment was witnessed between nominated MP John Mbadi and his Anaikboi counterpart Samuel Chepkonga of UDA, when Mbadi was explaining why Davis Chirchir should not be approved to serve in the Energy ministry.

“There are very many people with cases. Look at Davis Chirchir.  This is the same gentleman who was removed from office in 2015 because of matters of corruption.

How many Kenyans, if you ask them today, would remember that he was holding the docket of energy, very few, meaning he left no impact in that ministry,” the lawmaker remarked.

He faulted Ruto’s move to bypass Rebecca Miano who has professional skills and experience in the energy sector. Miano was appointed to the East Africa Community and Regional Development docket.

Chepkonga however interrupted him on a point of order saying Chirchir was not charged in any court of law because of the allegations and was just removed from office in a very “capricious manner.”

“He(Mbadi) is just bringing some market talk from outside. He is under an obligation to be accurate. In the event you were in government the last time, you should have charged him in a court of law but you can’t just come and engage in a market talk in this serious house,” Chepkonga said.

Mbadi however clapped back at him saying that he would have lost in the next general elections if former MP William Chepkut was alive.

“Hon. Chepkonga is lucky that Chepkut is no longer there; he would lose in the next election,” Mbadi said as he continued with his presentation.

Chepkut passed on earlier this month after battling with kidney disease for long.
