GOVERNMENT TO ARREST THE FOLLOWING PEOPLE

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has launched a probe on a suspected theft of public funds by 5 county workers amounting to Ksh.196,016,910 in Isiolo county government.

The five, reportedly working in the Finance and Economic Planning Department, were allegedly used as conduits to channel the money and later shared among other county officials.

A statement by EACC on Wednesday revealed that the 5 received the money in five separate installments between 2019 and 2022.

Daniel Lenyangume received Ksh.48,697,530, Monica Rukwaro Ksh.30,452,715 and Stephen M’anampiu received Ksh.46,971,100.

Another Ksh.20,432,965 was wired to Japhet Nkatha while Joseph Mburu received Ksh.49,462,600.

The commission therefore demands that relevant payment vouchers and all necessary documents be availed for investigation, failure to which appropriate action will ensue.

“The Commission has written to the County Government, through the County Secretary, to avail various documents required for the investigation, including the relevant payment vouchers,” read part of the statement.

“Failure to submit documents required for corruption investigations is an offence under the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, 2003.”

The probe is expected to recover the lost public funds and bring to book persons found culpable.
