MARTHA KARUA SPLITS WITH RAILA ODINGA

Azimio La Umoja coalition running mate Martha Karua says they will accept the Supreme Court verdict on the presidential election petition expected to be delivered on Monday, September 5.

Speaking at Nchui Methodist Church in Tigania East, Meru County on Friday, Karua said Azimio’s motivation to file the petition was pursuit of justice.

“You are all aware that there is a case going on at the Supreme Court where we are seeking the truth about what happened. Our Constitution stipulates that if one is dissatisfied with the results, they have to seek legal redress and that is what we did,” she said, adding: “When the verdict is out, we all respect that. We want to maintain peace but for this to be achieved there must be justice because peace without justice is not sustainable.”

Nullification
Azimio is seeking for a nullification of the August 9 poll results in which competitor William Ruto of United Democratic Alliance was declared winner. Ruto garnered 50.49% of the vote against Raila Odinga’s [Azimio candidate] 48.85%.

Karua was in Meru for the burial of Florah Kabeti, mother of former National Cohesion and Integration Commission member Prof. Gitile Naituli.
