WILLIAM RUTO SCORES FIRST WIN AT THE SUPREME COURT.

President-elect William Ruto has secured his first major victory at the Supreme Court, clearing the first hurdle in his quest to rise to the presidency.

This is after a petition to block his swearing in was dismissed by the apex court.

A voter identified as Alfred Juma Ayora wrote to the Supreme Court and Chief Justice Martha Koome to stop the swearing-in of President-elect William Ruto in what signaled the first ‘petition’ in the Supreme Court to challenge the presidential election results.

Ayora’s bid was not admitted because of non-compliance with the rules, which require filing of a formal petition and not letters.

In his two-paragraph letter, Ayora asked for orders to invalidate the election of Dr Ruto and Deputy President-elect Rigathi Gachagua.

“I write to express the unsatisfactory nature of this year’s general election results for presidential candidates that were announced by IEBC chairperson Wafula Chebukati on August 15, 2022,” reads part of the letter.

The court however advised him to draft a petition instead in accordance with the law.

The constitution stipulates that a presidential election petition should be filed in the Supreme Court within seven days after the declaration of results and in accordance with the Supreme Court (Presidential Election Petition) Rules, 2017.
