REPRIEVE: MIKE SONKO IS ON THE BALLOT.

Ex- Nairobi County Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has launched fresh attacks on Independent Electoral And Boundaries (IEBC) Chair Wafula Chebukati accusing him of planning to lock him out of the forthcoming polls.

Through a statement on Tuesday, July 12, the former County chief blasted Chebukati for claiming he has not received a court order directing him not to gazette names of aspirants.

Mike Sonko shared court documents claiming there is a plot to backdate the gazette notice in a bid to lock him out and render the court order time-barred, even as the election date draws near.

“Without going to the merits and details of my case this is impunity of the highest order huyu mzee wa mukobero says he’s not aware of any court order. Ana conspire na wengine kuback date na kufanya forgery kwa Kenya gazzete ati ilikuwa ya 1st July 2022 while it was published on Sunday, 10th July 2022,” he said.

The former governor’s case is currently in court where he is seeking orders to have his name included on the ballot ahead of the August general elections.

The poll management body (IEBC) had locked out the former Nairobi Governor on grounds that he had failed to provide a degree certificate while presenting his papers for his clearance to Chebukati’s office.

Sonko’s impeachment as Nairobi Governor is also another hurdle that he faces ahead of the polls as IEBC said it will not clear impeached aspirants for the August general elections.
