HII NI AIBU: IGATHE TROLLS SAKAJA BADLY

Polycarp Igathe, a Nairobi Governor seat hopeful who has recently risen to prominence with his ‘Jack of all trades’ antics across town, posing as a dressmaker, a bartender, a waterman, and a toilet cleaner in a smattering of photos, has now waded into fellow contender Johnson Sakaja’s degree woes.
Igathe appeared to troll Sakaja, who has been working hard to prove where and how he graduated, with the mystery surrounding his academic credentials growing by the day.

Igathe, a corporate hotshot who has held top positions in numerous Kenyan firms, shared several photos from his December 1995 graduation.

In one of the photos, a lithe-looking Igathe posed next to his former classmate Elias Mbugu, dressed in a broken suit.

In another, Igathe, now dressed in a graduation gown, posed alongside another classmate, Charles Macharia.

Although he did not explicitly mention his rival for Nairobi’s top job in the post, his supporters were quick to drag the Nairobi senator into the heated debate over his papers.

On June 7, the IEBC approved Sakaja’s candidacy for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat, despite widespread reports that he lacks a university degree, which is required for gubernatorial candidates.

According to reports from the University of Nairobi, Sakaja has yet to graduate from the institution where he studied Actuarial Science up until 2007/2008.

“It is true Sakaja was admitted to the university and was pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science, studied from first year up to fourth year, but is yet to graduate,” UoN communications director John Orindi told the Nation.

Additionally, the University has told the DCI that Sakaja’s transcripts are incomplete and have not been signed.

Days after his clearance by IEBC, other reports indicated that the Nairobi Senator presented a degree certificate from a Ugandan University for clearance by IEBC.

On Monday, in the latest twist to the degree mystery, Sakaja asked the IEBC tribunal to dismiss the complaint filed against him over his academic certificates.

He told the electoral body that he holds a Bachelor of Science in Management degree conferred to him by Team University in Uganda.

He further states Team is duly recognised by the Republic of Uganda.

“My qualifications and academic credentials are not in doubt having affirmed through a lawful process,” reads the papers

He has further dismissed the names used in the complaint saying that he is not Johnson Koskei Sakaja as written in the complaint.

“The complaints herein are legally incompetent, fatally defective having been lodged outside the prescribed statutory timeliness,”he says.
