WHY KENYA KWANZA MIGHT NOT TAKE PART IN AUGUST ELECTIONS

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has said the Kenya Kwanza coalition might not take part in the August polls if Independent Election and boundaries Commision (IEBC) will fail to address the issue they raised on rigging.

Kuria told the electoral commission to address the issue of irregular transfer of voters in its electronic register before going on with the preparations.

Illegal transfer of voters
The coalition led by Deputy President William Ruto has been up in arms with the IEBC over the suspected illegal transfer of voters, which they argue affected mainly voters from regions they claimed to enjoy more support.

Speaking on Monday, June 6, after his clearance to vie for the Kiambu governor’s seat, Kuria insisted that the faction will not participate in the forthcoming polls until the electoral commission addresses the contentious matter.

“It is a serious issue that Wafula Chebukati has not addressed himself and which may see the postponement of the general election because we are determined to go all the way to the Supreme Court,” he said.

Kuria regretted that the commission remained tight-lipped over the matter despite numerous complaints.

“I don’t know why this conspiracy of silence is clipping in and even the media has lowered their status by failing to ask the commission about the contentious matter,” he added.

The MP also accused the government of using state agencies to advance rigging of the elections saying the scheme was being executed through the Ministry of ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs.

“We have heard that CS Joe Mucheru has a team that has access to the IEBC database that is changing these details. Anyway, the rubber will meet the road, we will provide our evidence, and we expect IEBC to confirm or refute those allegations,” he claimed.
