MEET FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE IN 2022

The clock is ticking towards May 16 – the deadline by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission for presidential candidates to name their running mates.

Will any of the aspirants, name a woman as a running mate? Will ODM-OKA flag-bearer Raila Odinga name Martha Karua or will Deputy President William Ruto pick Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru?

Well, the Roots Party has already picked Justina Wamae, making her the first female presidential running mate in this year’s general elections.

Appearing on K24 TV, on Sunday, May 1, Justina stated that her party, led by legal scholar Prof George Wajackoya had no reason to wait longer as they are ready to serve Kenyans.

In what seems like a scheme to woo women, she clarified that as a parent she understood the plight of other mothers and their children, especially with the skyrocketing unemployment.

“We decided to be leaders and others to follow, we thought why should we wait?, It’s time we name the running mate to Prof Wajackoya so that we can hit the ground running and let Kenyans know we are ready for public service,” she stated.

Justina, first came to the limelight during the 2017 elections when she unsuccessfully contested for the Mavoko, Member of National Assembly seat.

She explained that women’s leadership is an idea whose time has come not only in Kenya but globally as well.

“When Obama came to Kenya she said if you leave out women in your team you can’t achieve much and women being the majority voters men are compelled to have women as their running mates, it’s a global thing even Biden picked Kamala Harris,” she argued.

According to her what sets them apart is that they are making economic promises while saying where the money will come from.

The Daystar alumnus says their goal as a party is to legalize Marijuana primarily for export and not necessarily for consumption.

Additionally, she opines it is time Kenyans have a candid conversation on ‘weed’ which though illegal is readily available and smokers and non-smokers alike have made conscious decisions to that effect.

The Professor and the Roots Party are geniuses, we have outlined where the money will come from, we will legislate and regulate Marijuana for purposes of export, not consumption,” she clarified.

The Roots Party flag-bearer, Prof Wajackoya, and advocate of the High Court of Kenya has become a sensation because of his radical campaign pledges as well as his dress code.

The Roots Party slogan is “Tingisha Mti” which Justina describes as shaking the tree of the problems facing Kenyans.
