RAILA ODINGA OFFERS THIS POSITION TO KALONZO MUSYOKA

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition has reportedly introduced the chief minister post to accommodate Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and Narc leader Matha Karua.

Power-sharing governmnet
The coalition drifted the post of chief minister in power-sharing negotiations to forestall a fallout over selecting a running mate for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The post, whose holder is envisaged to supervise and coordinate government functions, is reportedly tailored to appease those eyeing the running mate position should they not be picked.

According to the Daily Nation, this development points dilemma to the Raila’s camp, which is grappling trying to satisfy the deputy president nominee.

Besides Kalozo and Karua, another politician said to be in the front line for the position is the former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth.

“Azimio La Umoja shall establish the office of the Chief Minister for the purposes of inclusivity and smooth operation and functioning of government business.

The government requires an office that coordinates its functions on behalf of the Executive for the proper execution of the day to day running of the government,” reads a strategy paper seen by the Nation.

The competing interests in selecting the deputy president nominee made the coalition party form a seven-member panel to choose the running mate.

But political realignments have seen President Uhuru and the ruling party back Raila’s presidential bid, reportedly on the understanding that he will pick his deputy from the Mt Kenya region.
