LIST OF MPS THAT WILL BE KICKED OUT OF PARLIAMENT

The Jubilee Party has told off National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi over his stance not to declare as vacant, seats of MPs who have decamped from parties that sponsored them to the House.

While receiving defectors from UDA and ANC parties in Nairobi, Jubilee Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni said the law is clear on the actions to be taken against errant members.

Muturi is a presidential hopeful and leader of the Democratic Party ticket.
The lawmaker threatened to dewhip members who have defected to other parties without announcing their seats vacant.

“There are no orders stopping the party from discontinuing the membership of a person who has gone against the constitution of the party or the provision the political parties stand for,” Kioni said.

He noted that all members who had ditched the party without official communication would be deemed non-members and kicked out of the party’s positions.

“Those members who have joined the inferior parties including this other one, they are not our members and can therefore not represent us in Bunge or any committee or any leadership position; the speaker may desire to remain with them,” he said.

This follows speaker Muturi’s remarks on Wednesday where he said that MPs who had switched parties would not lose their seats.

Kieni legislator Kanini Kega on his part said that the party would be considering the conduct of its new members as it seeks to have a new face ahead of the August elections.

He said: “Candidates with questionable past we are not accepting them, candidates who have not been cleared by the relevant agencies we are not inviting them because we have agreed that we want to start on a clean slate, the others can take any other person one.”
