MUSALIA EXPLAINS WHY HE LEFT KALONZO AND GIDEON MOI

Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi, on Sunday, January 30 disclosed night meetings that made him ditch his former One Kenya Alliance (OKA) co-principals, Gideon Moi and Kalonzo Musyoka.

Speaking to the media after a church service at St Faith Parish, Rongai, Mudavadi claimed that the Kanu and Wiper presidential candidates had been holding secret engagements with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He also defended himself from allegations of double-dealing his partners in OKA – noting that he informed them of his decision to work with Deputy President William Ruto in good time.

“I want to state very clearly that we had broad consultations and we made our pronouncement at the NDC in broad daylight, not at night,” the ANC party leader declared.

Mudavadi noted that he decided to chart his own path after realizing that Moi and Kalonzo were inclined to Azimio la Umoja, which is led by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader.

“The truth of the matter is that when we were engaging with some of the members of the OKA wing, we could see that some of them were leaning towards the state project.

“We made it very clear that we were taking a different course. We did not betray anybody, our priority is to the Kenyan people,” he noted.

The ANC boss added that during his party’s National Delegates Conference (NDC), he was cautioned against backing the Azimio patriarch.

“When we stood there at NDC, ANC had told me very clearly that Azimio was not an option, that is a state project which the Kenyans did not want,” he revealed.

Kalonzo, Moi and businessman Jimi Wanjigi stormed out of the Bomas of Kenya after getting a hint that Deputy President William Ruto and his contingent had been invited. They claimed that they had not been informed of the DPs presence.

On January 28, the Wiper Democratic Movement presidential candidate disclosed that he would have settled on Mudavadi as his running mate whom he would back after serving only one term.

“I was ready to make Musalia Mudavadi my running mate. I am not sure if he has been offered a better position in Ruto’s camp. Being 68, I promised him that I will only serve for 5 years and hand over power to him in 2027. But he grew impatient,” he stated.

The OKA principals have been courting Narc Party Leader Martha Karua, to replace Mudavadi as one of its principals.
