PRESIDENT UHURU KENYATTA TOUGH MESSAGE TO UDA GOVERNOR

President Uhuru Kenyatta has come out to defend his handshake partner and Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga from those criticizing him about his continuous narration of Kenya’s history.

Speaking during the Jamhuri Day celebration on Sunday, December 12, President Kenyatta told Kenyans that they should not be cheated that the country’s history is “meaningless, useless and irrelevant”.

According to the Head of State, history provides lessons of the past and gives a better understanding of current affairs.

“Some will tell you that history is meaningless, unnecessary, useless and irrelevant to the concerns of the present. I beg to differ. History provides invaluable lessons to be learnt and give context to the present.

By looking back, we are better able to look forward. Learning from the past means we can build on its good, avoid its mistakes and most importantly it is a constant reminder of the ugly,” President Uhuru said.

The president’s move to urge the nation to embrace history come weeks after Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga blasted Raila Odinga for constantly reminding Kenyans of the country’s history.

Governor Kahiga asked the ODM supremo to stop narrating to Kenyans about the country’s history and instead tell people what he has in store for them in case he clinches the presidency come 2022.

“It is not the right time to talk about history, it is time to talk about where we are going,” Kahiga said.

President Kenyatta has, however, differed with Kahiga noting that history helps the country rewrite the wrong it had done before.

The president made the statement while reminding Kenyans of the significance of Uhuru Gardens in the country’s history.

He said that the gardens are a place of remembers where the country’s founding fathers wanted ‘generations to recall the darkness of our colonial past.”
