MOMBASA ROAD HAS BEEN CLOSED

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has warned of a traffic snarl-up along Mombasa Road due to a stalled truck at Imara Daima area (JKIA Bound).

In a public notice released on Thursday, November 4, KeNHA announced that it was working towards resolving the matter to clear up traffic on the busy highway

The authority noted that the Nairobi Expressway project implementation team was on the site, working to resume normal traffic flow.

KeNHA urged motorists to exercise patience even as work is ongoing to clear the section of the road. This is to fast-track the opening up of the stretch to pave way for motorists using the route over the weekend.

The government had been in the spotlight over construction machinery that constantly breaks down causing traffic disruptions on the stretch.

Motorists have constantly called on to ensure that service roads to the area are open to mitigate the traffic jams that last several hours.

The authority accompanied their advisory with an apology note to the users who were rushing out of the Central Business District (CBD) during the peak hours.

Mombasa Road has been a hotbed of traffic jams at different stages even before the construction of the Ksh65 billion Nairobi Expressway kicked off.

Since construction on the expressway began in 2019, the highway has turned Mombasa Road, as well as Uhuru Highway and Waiyaki Way into a nightmare for motorists and commuters plying the area.

The roads authority has assured motorists that the construction of the expressway was in top gear and everything was being done to complete the project as scheduled.

It further revealed that the company building the state-of-the-art road project had so far employed 4,000 people.

“The project financing and implementing company, Moja Expressway Company, has employed over 4,000 Kenyans across different cadres besides using locally procured tons of construction materials required for the project.” the authority remarked.
