GOVERNOR CHASED AWAY LIKE A STRAY DOG FROM RAILA’S MEETING

Isiolo Governor Mohammed Abdi Kuti was forced to leave the podium in a meeting attended by Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader, Raila Odinga in the county.

Kuti left the podium after the crowd turned rowdy and booed him. The youth who attended the meeting held in honour of Raila chanted anti-Kuti slogans and demanded to be addressed by former Isiolo governor Godana Doyo.

“Kuti must go”, they shouted even after other leaders pleaded with them to calm down.

Suna East MP Junet Mohamed intervened but the Isiolo residents did not heed his calls. They instead heckled the governor and disrupted all speeches.

The residents forced Raila to momentarily cut short his speech as they demanded to listen to Doyo who was also present at the event.

Kuti and Doyo’s supremacy battle has been intensifying as the latter looks to win back the governor’s seat in 2022.

The incumbent governor, Kuti, nonetheless, hopes to use his four years’ service defined by multi-million-shilling projects to woo voters to re-elect him.

Some of the projects include the construction of the county headquarters, a modern market and a stadium partly funded by his administration.

He also boasts of the establishment of a municipality that had attracted World Bank funding, leading to the upgrading of street lighting and roads in Isiolo town.

Kuti backed Doyo in 2013 but the former allies fell out two years later.

In the 2017 General Election, the Borana community fielded two candidates; Doyo and Devolution CAS Abdul Bahari. The duo, however, lost to Kuti.
