GIDEON MOI RUNS AWAY

One Kenya Alliance (OKA) is in disarray after KANU started courting Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2022 General election.

ODM Chairman John Mbadi confirming the coalition talks on Friday, September 24, noted that the party is keen on working with Gideon Moi’s led party in the upcoming polls.

During a fund drive in Migori, the lawmaker made it clear that ODM is also capitalising on the political transfer window to build a strong team that would battle it out with other parties for different positions in the upcoming polls.

“And we are also going to work very closely with KANU led by Gideon Moi. As Kenyans we are working together towards uniting this country,” Mbadi stated.

His sentiments were echoed by Ugunja member of parliament Opiyo Wandayi who insisted that the future of the country lies in the unity of political leaders.

“We believe the future of this country lies in unity of purpose which can only come through coalitions and progressive alliances such as the one ODM is currently engaged in with our worthy partners in One Kenya Alliance especially KANU and with Jubilee,” he noted.

The Baringo Senator said their outfit that brings together Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ANC’s Musalia Mudavadi, Ford Kenya Leader Moses Wetangula has welcome Raila and other leaders in a move seen as a strategy to edge out Deputy President William Ruto in the State House contest.

Multiple sources have it on authority that the talks have the blessings of President Uhuru Kenyatta who has made it clear that he doesn’t want his deputy, William Ruto to succeed him.

His latest call is a culmination of other similar sentiments made by the lawmaker in the past.

In July 2021 during a fundraising function in AIC Kyondoni in Kitui County, the Baringo senator said that the door is open for Raila to join OKA.

“We are firmly in OKA together with my brother Kalonzo and but doors are wide open to accommodate more leaders. We want Raila and others to join us. We can’t afford to lock others out because everyone has a part to play in building the country,” he said.

If the coalition talks succeed it will likely to disintegrate OKA which has maintained that if Raila joins them he support drop his presidential bid.
