ANGRY GATUNDU RESIDENTS FINGER WOMAN AFTER HUSBAND’S DEATH

Shock has gripped Ndonyero village at Igegania in Gatundu North constituency after irate residents burnt a house to protest death of a man believed to have been killed by his kin.

Using bare hands, the irked residents collapsed the 3-bedroom house and a kitchen in protest of John Gatonye’s brutal murder allegedly by his wife and son.

Gatonye is reported to have died while receiving treatment at Thika hospital after his wife and son allegedly beat him using a sharp object causing him grave injuries.

The trio are said to have been embroiled in a longstanding 4-acre land tussle that reportedly saw son and mother conspire with another person (not from the family) to grab it.

Residents stated that the said wife and son had earlier trumped-up assault charges against the deceased resulting in him being jailed for a year.

Less than a month after his release from jail, Gatonye is reported to have quarrelled with his wife and son over domestic feuds, a squabble that left him with serious stomach injuries.

According to Monica Wandia, a member of the family, the land in question purportedly belongs to the deceased father who she said was also similarly murdered by unknown persons over the same parcel.

“They started by jailing the man and less than a month after his release from jail, they beat him using a sharp object causing his death. We are angry and tired of this death,” Wandia noted.

While the two murder suspects went underground, police officers from Kamwangi police division today visited the family to gather intelligence about the crime.

Furious locals led by Alice Wanjiku vowed to excommunicate the two from the village to avert more harm to their family members, neighbours.

Speaking after protesting over the heinous murder, the locals called on the government to promptly intervene and resolve the land question for tranquillity in the village.
