OKA ALLIANCE ANNOUNCE THEIR NEXT MOVE

With President Uhuru Kenyatta’s advise about his preferred successor still ringing in their ears, One Kenya Alliance chiefs have planned a retreat in Naivasha to brainstorm on their options.

The Star has established principals Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya) and Gideon Moi (Kanu) will lead their teams of advisers on Monday for a two-day crisis talks.

Initially, the meeting was to be held this week but was rescheduled to accommodate Kalonzo who is out of the country.

The Wiper boss is expected to land in the country on Sunday ahead of the Monday meeting.

ANC deputy party leader and Lugari MP Ayub Savula yesterday told the Star that the meeting is on and will discuss how to make the alliance stronger ahead of the 2022 General Election.

Savula dismissed talks of cracks in One Kenya Alliance on the choice of a presidential candidate saying their focus is to have the alliance up and running.

“There is a retreat in Naivasha from Monday through to Tuesday. We basically will discuss how to strengthen our coalition, we want to make it extremely strong and focus on strategies of winning,” Savula said on the phone.

“The issue of presidential candidate will come at a later stage.”

Another insider confirmed to the Star that indeed One Kenya Alliance would be meeting in Naivasha following the meeting they had with President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House in Mombasa on Tuesday.

He however said the meeting of the principals would be preceded by a joint Parliamentary Group meeting of ANC, Kanu, Ford Kenya and Wiper.

“MPs of the three parties will first meet and will then be joined by the principals to make a decision on the way forward,” he added.

The principals are expected to give the legislators details of their meeting with Uhuru who is reported to have asked OKA to rally behind ODM leader Raila Odinga in 2022 presidential election.

The legislators will be heading to Naivasha on Friday and might be holed up in meetings throughout the weekend.

“They may be there until Monday,” he said.

The MPs will have sessions with the Oka secretariat, which will update them on steps achieved so far in pursuing the alliance’s goals.

“They will be taken through the Oka manifesto and then allowed to make contributions to it,” he added.
