WAIGURU TALKS ABOUT BEING 2022 PRESIDENTIAL RUNNING MATE

Kirinyaga County Governor Ann Waiguru has revealed that she has no interest whatsoever to be any presidential candidate’s running mate during next year’s general elections.

Speaking in Kerugoya town, the county boss said that she has not been approached by any of the leaders eyeing the nation’s top seat and thus any information on the same should be treated as rumours.

While addressing women groups set to benefit from Wezesha, a program set to support livestock farming in the county, Waiguru said her only interest is to vie for Kirinyaga County’s top seat for a second term.

“As the Governor of Kirinyaga I’m focusing on my re-election during the 2022 elections because I have not discussed the same with any of the leaders who have declared their presidential interests,” she said.

She has however said that the people peddling such information in various social media platforms have only noticed her potential.

“They have noted my potential in delivering to the people of Kirinyaga,” she said

The second Kirinyaga county governor since the inception of devolution has also pointed out that it might also be a well-laid scheme by her opponents to push her out of the race in a bid to eliminate competition.

“Our opponents have noted that the competition is going to be very stiff and therefore they have to come up with ways to push me out of the race by portraying that I am only interested in the Deputy President’s office,” she said.

In the hotly contested election, Waiguru will be facing off with her Deputy Peter Ndambiri, Kirinyaga County Women Representative Wangui Ngirici Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua, former Governor Joseph Ndathi, Mombasa based businessman Comba Ndau among others.

On the issue of a divided Mt Kenya Region, Waiguru has claimed that the mountain is only facing a few political challenges but not as split into Western and Eastern regions as it has been portrayed in the recent past.

“We are not divided. We only had a problem with National Speaker Justin Muturi appointing himself as the region’s spokesperson,” she explained

She further expressed satisfaction in Speaker Muturi’s interest in the presidential seat terming it as a democratic right adding that it is the people of Kenya who will elect their leader in the 2022 general elections.

“It is the people who will elect their leader,” she said.
