CS FRED MATIANG’I TALKS ABOUT NEW LOCKDOWN

Interior CS Fred Matiangi on Wednesday warned that the government might be forced to restrict movement in and out of Kisumu County and other surrounding counties in Western Kenya.

Speaking at the Kenya School of Government , the CS indicated that the government had been alarmed by the surging Covid- 19 cases and would soon announce containment measures.

“I know that we’re up to the task and by the end of today we will have a decision and we would consult and see how to enhance the containment in Nyanza counties,”Matiangi said.

Adding,

“It may lead to new measure to deal with movement and social activities to manage the spread. Managing Covid-19 has been a hard task but with coordination from the Ministry of Health, we have not been defeated. “

Kisumu County has recently registered worrying cases of infections with most of its public and private hospitals getting overwhelmed with the number of admissions.

A meeting organized last week by Governor Anyang Nyong’o announced stringent measures to contain the spread of the virus. Meanwhile a multi- agency team has been conducting patrols in different joints in the lakeside city to ensure they close by 7pm.

Yesterday over 150 people were taken into custody and charged with failing to keep distance, wear facemasks and breaking other protocols.

Kisumu Central subcounty has been marked as the epicenter of the virus in the county, closely followed by Kisumu East and Kisumu West.
