FAMOUS RADIO PRESENTER REVEALS WHY HE TRIED COMMITTNG SUICIDE

Former Capital FM presenter Maqbul Mohammed has opened up on his struggles being in the limelight.

In an in-depth interviewon Daily Nation, the Radio guru cum actor said that despite the money, job opportunities that come with fame, he was not a happy man.

“No one prepares for the responsibility that comes with fame, No one tells you about these things. The expectations on me were so much. I worked from Monday to Saturday. I was dealing with pressure from TV, radio, marriage, children, and fans. It was too much to take. It was a difficult point in my life because I couldn’t balance all these,”

This pressure left the former Auntie Boss actor admitted in a hospital for two weeks because of stomach ulcers.

The depression got deep into him, and suicidal thoughts took over his mind.

“I remember going for a party, got drunk and I thought this is the perfect time to end it. I tried taking some pills but it didn’t work.”

Maqbul, who was fired from Capital FM in 2019 said the mental illness resulted in absconding from his duties.

“I would wake up in the morning, get in the car, drive to work, and park. I’d then turn on the radio, listen to my co-host(Amina Abdi Rabar) then turn off the radio and drive back home. By that time my wife had gone to work and I would get in the room and sleep,”

Fortunately, he received help from his former employer through counseling, and also support from his close family members.

After leaving Capital FM, Maqbul joined the Nation Media group as the Team Lead in Charge of Radio Special Projects.

Other than working at NMG, he also has a major acting role onCrime and Justiceprogramme aired on Showmax.
