GOVERNMENT ISSUES NEW DIRECTIVES TO SCHOOLS

The Kenya National Examination Centre (KNEC) has issued guidelines on the 2021 KCPE, KCSE Exams that will be conducted in March 2022.
The agency is racing against time to conduct two national exams in the same year before institutions revert to the normal school calendar in 2023. The 2022 KCPE, KCSE exams are scheduled for November 2022, nine months after the 2021 exams are conducted.

The setting of examinations is already underway and KNEC has now turned its focus on preparing students for the exams.

In a circular issued to schools that will have candidates towards the end of July 2021 (currently Class 7 and Form 3 students), KNEC instructed headteachers to register them on its portal.

“All school heads should register candidates where they have been learning in Class 7 for primary schools and Form 3 for secondary schools.

“Registration of a candidate in two examination centres is an examination malpractice,” KNEC CEO Mercy Karogo directed.

She further warned that KNEC would not allow late registration for candidates to take place.

Sub-County Directors of Education were directed to register private candidates. The directors will access and download the private candidates’ registration forms from the KNEC portal, ensure it is appropriately filled and forward it to sub-county education offices.

KNEC will only allow one examination centre per sub-county to offer exams to private candidates.

Karogo further directed that schools that have between 5 and 14 candidates will be hosted by another exam centre.

Candidates with foreign qualifications and those with Certificate of Primary Exams (CPE) will sit a qualifying test before registering for KCSE exams.

“Ensure that you accurately record candidates’ order of names as provided in birth certificates, year of birth, gender, subjects entered and other special needs,” the circular to school heads read.
