MAGOHA’S TOUGH WARNING TO PRIVATE SCHOOLS

Education CS George Magoha has sent a warning to private school heads defying the Ministry’s orders on the resumption of grade four pupils.

Speaking during a press briefing at Starehe Boys Centre on Friday, May 7, Magoha stated that the school heads risked losing their license for changing term dates for the Grade 4 pupils.

“Every Kenyan child is equal. For us, we do not bother whether a child is in private or public school. We believe that every Kenyan child is equal and should be treated that way,” he maintained.

The CS noted that a meeting held to discuss on the decision of school reopening had a representation by all Education Stakeholders including the private school owners who were defying orders.

“I hope that matter is rested because we have already received reports that certain people have already received fee guidelines that they want their grade four pupils to report.

“Go and create your Country, government and then your education system,” Magoha chided.

His response came a day after a section of private school owners asked their grade four students to report to school on May 12, rather than July 26, which has been directed by the government.

“After consultations, we have seen it fit for them to report back to school on May 12 to ensure we keep them engaged with normal learning,” read a message sent to parents from Garden Estate Academy in Nairobi.

Following the move, parents had lamented and asked the respective schools to follow the government’s directive.

Grade Four, along with Grade eight and Form four candidates, completed their syllabus last term during the first phase of reopening.

“Parents should not be bullied into paying school fees,” Magoha stated.
