KENYANS WARNED TO AVOID SUPERMARKET MEAT AFTER A STUDY REVEALED THIS DETAIL

A study done on selected Kenyan supermarkets has revealed the meat we buy is not safe for human consumption. The study looked at pork and chicken meat sold on those outlets. 98.4% of pork meat and 96.6% of chicken meat sold in Kenyan supermarkets is not healthy according to the findings.

The study revealed that there was dominant prevalence of E-Coli Bacteria. Pathogens like Salmonella and Shigella were also found. Some of these bacteria and pathogen are found to originate from the farm level.

The main reason attributed to these is excessive use of antibiotics by farmers. This makes most of the diseases become resistant to drugs. With supermarkets selling tons of meat everyday, this is a great public health safety concern.

Many Kenyans opt to do most of their shopping at supermarkets. It seems they need to reconsider their options when buying chicken and pork meat. For their safety, they should buy from certified outlets where the meat has been tested or from farms they well know. To read more about the study click here.
