LIST OF KENYANS WHO ARE EXEMPTED FROM CURFEW.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i published a list of personnel classified as essential services providers who would not be affected by the revised curfew hours instituted by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, March 26.

According to the Gazette notice, the list includes medical professionals and health workers, National security, administration and coordination of national government officers, licensed pharmaceuticals companies, licensed broadcasters, and media houses.

Others include the Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Airports Authority and Licensed Civil Aviation Service Providers, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, Kenya Airways PLC.

Other Kenyans exempted from the curfew hours include the Kenya Railways Corporation, Kenya Ports Authority, and Licensed Port Operators, power production and distribution companies, Kenya Pipeline Company, water service providers.

The agricultural and manufacturing sector was also catered for as food and farm produce processors, distributors, dealers, wholesalers and transporters, licensed supermarkets, minimarkets, and hypermarkets will also not be affected by the curfew.

Licensed distributors and retailers of petroleum and oil products and lubricants, licensed telecommunications operators and service providers, licensed banks, financial institutions, and payment services providers, fire brigade and emergency response services, licensed security firms and postal courier services are also listed as essential services.

Initially, Uhuru had directed the Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of the National Government to review the Covid-19 passes and exemptions.
“In light of the abuse of curfew passes and exemptions and its role in the steep increase in infections, The Ministry of Interior and Co-ordination of National Government jointly with the Ministry of Health are directed to immediately review the protocols for issuance of curfew passes and exemptions,” he stated.

This comes after President Uhuru instituted new measures in a bid to flatten the positivity rate curve and curb the third wave of the pandemic.

The Head of State ordered a lockdown in five counties; Nairobi, Nakuru, Kajiado, Machakos, and Kiambu.

He also revised curfew hours within the five counties to commence from 8:00 pm and end at 4:00 am while the rest of the country would observe the normal 10:00 pm to 4:00 am curfew hours.

The Ministry of Health, in past press briefings, has urged Kenyans to stay vigilant and adhere to the protocols given in order to curb the deadly virus. Currently, Kenya’s death toll stands at 2,153 with a total of 134,058 positive cases recorded.
