NAIROBI JOINS WAR BETWEEN USA AND CHINA

The Chinese Embassy to Kenya has joined its home government in the continued tension between China and the US.

On Thursday, March 25, the Embassy issued a rare tweet shaming the US record on human rights.

It questioned the US as to whose rights they were protecting, terming it as hypocritical of them to accuse China of violating human rights despite the fact that there was racial segregation in the US that had caused the death of George Floyd.

“George Floyds still can’t breathe.Who and what right on earth are the West protecting?” the foreign office in Nairobi posed.

This was in response to US’ move to sanction against two Chinese officials for “serious human rights abuses” against Uyghur Muslims and other ethnic minorities in Xinjiang province, China.

The US, allied by the European Union, Canada, the UK, Australia and New Zealand, argued that the Chinese government officials would continue to bear the consequences as long as there was still genocide and crimes against humanity being committed in Xinjiang.

“The United States reiterates its calls on the People’s Republic of China to bring an end to the repression of Uyghurs, who are predominantly Muslim, and members of other ethnic and religious minority groups in Xinjiang, including by releasing all those arbitrarily held in internment camps and detention facilities,” said US Treasury Department’s Director Andrea Gacki.

To their defense, the Chinese government stated that the US did not really care about human rights as their main agenda was to stop China from succeeding.

China retaliated by announcing sanctions against European Union and UK officials and restricting member companies from doing business in China.

“It is a courtesy to reciprocate what we receive. they will have to pay a price for their ignorance and arrogance,” stated the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Hua Chunying.

The Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has accused the EU of “disregarding and distorting the facts” and “grossly interfering in China’s internal affairs” by imposing sanctions against its officials.

International forces have joined the US in a solidary force to turn against China as the growing tension threatens trade and international relations between the two countries.

A spotcheck by Kenyans.co.ke established that the official Twitter page for the Chinese Embassy in Nairobi, which ordinarily shares information on its relations with Kenya, has been on an attack mode against Western interests over the past week.

It is not the first time that the West’s fights with China have escalated to Kenya and Africa as in fact, the Chinese embassy in Nairobi was once in the 1960s over related feuds.
