SGR EXPRESS TRAIN MAKES ITS FIRST STOP EVER AT VOI BECAUSE OF THIS

In today’s speech on containment of COVID-19, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced cessation of movement from five counties among them Nairobi County. This was bad news to some SGR passengers who were travelling to Nairobi from Mombasa for a few days. It meant that would they reach Nairobi, they would not be able to go back to Mombasa due to lockdown.

They agitated and the SGR management understood their plight. For the first time ever, the express SGR train stopped at Voi for passengers who no longer wanted to go to Nairobi to alight. The passengers decided to find their own means to go back to Mombasa instead of getting locked at Nairobi.

Mombasa was put under lockdown last year but this year it’s not on the list. Nairobi, Machakos, Kajiado, Kiambu and Nakuru are the counties that have been put under lockdown. The lockdown has been necessitated by rising cases of COVID-19 during this third wave. The government under Health and Interior ministries have put stringent measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.
