HEALTH CS KAGWE ISSUES FRESH COVID-19 WARNING

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has warned health facilities found administering Covid-19 vaccines to those, not on the priority list.

The Health CS cautioned that the facilities will have their practising licenses will be revoked f got going against the directive by the government.

“So long as a facility has been designated as a vaccination site, it should administer vaccines to all qualifying members of society without discrimination. But we must not administer to those not prioritized as vaccines are not yet available for all.:

“Should we receive information to the contrary, we may have no alternative but to consider punishing such facilities to the extent allowable in law, including suspending or revoking practice licences,” he said.

Kenya is offering the Covid-19 vaccine shots for free to its citizens but there is a priority list on who is getting vaccinated first.

At the moment the country is giving priority to healthcare workers and people on the frontline battling the pandemic.

The public has been urged to be more careful and follow the guidelines issued by MoH as Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists Union warned there are no spaces left within Intensive Care Units across the country.

Secretary-general Chibanzi Mwachonda said on Tuesday that with more doctors being admitted to hospitals Kenya needs more health workers to fight the pandemic.

“The acute shortage of doctors is detrimental to the health sector. We urge the Ministry of health and National Treasury to fast-track the contract renewal process of the 156 hired to work in isolation and treatment centers across the country,” his statement read.
