KENYAN WOMAN ARRESTED CARRYING GRENADE

A 24-year-old woman was arrested with three grenades and teargas canisters at Sololo in Marsabit on Thursday morning.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect was intercepted aboard a Marsabit-bound vehicle from Moyale.

The vehicle is said to belong to the Nanyuki Car Sacco, said the DCI.

“The explosives discovered by a multi agency team of officers comprising of our Police and AP counterparts, had been carefully concealed in a handbag belonging to the suspect,” the DCI added.

Anti Terror Police Officers from the DCI have since taken over investigations into the incident.

They are yet to establish where the explosives were being taken to, though it is believed that they were headed to Nairobi.

“In this regard, the driver of the vehicle was also arrested as a person of interest, to assist detectives with investigations,” said the DCI.

The woman’s arrest follows a report from members of the public who are said to have provided information leading to the flagging down of the vehicle.

Those with more information have been urged to report to the nearest police station.
