ANGRY KENYANS ATTACK MATIANG’I

“There are businesses that will completely die if President Uhuru Kenyatta extends the curfew.” These are words from Kenyans who plead with the head of state to end Covid-19 curfew. However, It is with no doubt that the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic is here with us as confirmed by the daily rising numbers of new infections and fatalities. The dangerous virus has started to escalate at a time when the economy had started to heal from the previous wave of the virus infection. However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel because the country has already commenced the process of administering the vaccine.

The cabinet secretary for health, Mutahi Kagwe, has been asking Kenyans to follow the stipulated protocols to halt the spread of the deadly virus. Kenyans seem to have gone back to their normal livelihoods and this could be the reason why the disease has to started to hit hard.

The citizens were expecting that president Uhuru may lift some of the measures regulating the spread of the virus during his address to the nation which is scheduled to take place on Friday 12. This might not happen due to the emergence of this new wave.

Interior security cabinet secretary, Dr Fred Matiang’i, has found himself in trouble after his statement which many Kenyans have termed as reckless. Matiang’i asked Kenyans to take care of their families starting with children. He went ahead and said that the government will not manage anyone’s wife or husband asking Kenyans to be responsible.

This statement seems to have caused agitation among many Kenyans who have gone ahead and asked him to stop exposing his pride. Those who have reacted to his statement have said that the government has role to protect all citizens arguing that everybody pays taxes.

The sentiments by Matiangi have sparked a series of mixed reactions from Kenyans including,

@Wan Eddie, “Being CS this is reckless talk. He needs to be reminded because he knows. That wives are Kenyans who pay taxes so that his huge salary can be paid. He is better off remaining silent.”

@Ventius Kimtai, People of Kenya heavily pay taxes for you and others to maintain your family and wife so respect Kenyan citizens because they are managing your family with their taxes.

@Timothie S Millie’s, “Where did this come from?! All the same there are people who work for the govt and their wives are taken care of by govt, ie County first ladies, first Lady, dp wife, etc.”

@Livingstone Ouma, “But why do Kenyans manages you people by laying heavy taxes for you to be accommodated?”

@Hillary Kibet, “when is this government finishing its term?I loathe pride and arrogance”

@Ephantus Kimani, acha maringo, what do you take Kenyans for?

@Tarus Festus, “Your fall is near we are just watching every day!!!”

@Julius Kenya, “Some reckless statement…matiangi thinks we are his properties.”

@Rokini Rokini, “Kichwa kuubwa na na akili kama sabuni ya lodging.”

@Gilbert Bett, “Kumbafu hii ulipora pesa za wananchi unadhani kila mtu anapata pesa kiurahisi”

@Peter Waweru, “matiangi wisdom hapo ndo imemfikisha”
