PRESIDENT UHURU MAKES NEW GOVERNMENT APPOINTMENTS

President Uhuru Kenyatta has announced new appointments to various government parastatal boards.

In a special gazette notice dated February 23, the head of state appointed Lewis Nguyi as the chairman of the National Hospital Insurance (NHIF) Board.

He will serve in the capacity for a period of three years taking over from Hannah Muriithi who has been head of the board since April 2018.

Also appointed is Dr Daniel Mbinda Musyoka who will take over the chairperson position of the board of Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) from Naftali Agata whose appointment was revoked.

The President also tapped Safaricom’s Chief Financial Services Officer Sitoyo Lopokoi who will be the chairperson of the board of the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH).

He will take over from former Eldoret East legislator Joseph Lagat.

The changes come after a reshuffle of Chief Administrative Secretaries and Permanent Secretaries in Various Ministries.

Nine officials were sworn in during a ceremony at State House on February 19, including former Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi who was appointed CAS in the Ministry of Public Service and Gender Affairs.

The other newly sworn-in CASs were Eric Simiyu Wafukho (National Treasury), Jackson Musyoka Kalla (Labour and Social Protection), Lawrence Angolo Omuhaka (Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Co-operatives) and Prof. Japheth Ntiba Micheni (State Law Office and Department of Justice).

Others were former University of Nairobi student leader David Osiany (Industrialization, Trade and Enterprise Development), Dr. Sara Ruto (Education), Zachary Ayieko (Energy) and Alex Mburi Mwiru (Lands and Physical Planning).

President Uhuru Kenyatta told the newly appointed CASs to prioritise the completion of ongoing National Government projects in their respective dockets.

President Kenyatta further advised them to embrace teamwork in advancing the Government agenda.

“We have a big task ahead of us, a task of completing programs and projects that we have already embarked on. I look forward to your contribution in fast-tracking them,” President Kenyatta noted.
