MURKOMEN TWEET EXCITES KENYANS

A disparaging statement that Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen tweeted on August 15, 2020, has excited Kenyans.

Murkomen had made the remarks months after he and Nakuru senator Susan Kihika were ousted as Majority Leader and Majority Chief Whip respectively and replaced with senators Samuel Poghisio and Irungu Kang’ata.

Taking to his Twitter, Murkomen had termed Kang’ata as a ‘loser’ indicating that he could not fathom or understand why Murang’a residents had elected him.

“Murang’a people left a solid negotiator Sn Kembi and elected a clown called Kang’ata who cannot convince anyone. He should know I am not one of those BBI boys to be blackmailed. How did Jubilee replace Kihika with such a loser,” Murkomen posed.

Five months later, however, Murkomen was one of the senators who stood in solidarity with ousted Kang’ata during the Jubilee Party Senate PG meeting on Tuesday, February 9.

He declared that he would oppose any fraudulent actions against the senator and asked for evidence to be tabled in the house including signatures of people who voted to oust Kang’ata.

“We are going to stand with senator Kang’ata, we are going to oppose any fraudulent process that is going to be brought to the senate. We want the Speaker to make the ruling of our removal last year before making the ruling of senator Kang’ata.”

Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju told the media that Kang’ata had lost the trust of his Senate leaders by leaking confidential information.

Tuju added that the decision was not linked to the letter the Murang’a Senator had penned earlier in the year on the alleged unpopularity of BBI in Mt Kenya region.

“We had a meeting where we invited Senator Kang’ata, but he refused to come, he joined online and later discussed what was discussed to the media.

“If after talking, you expose what was discussed, then that is not acceptable and that is a big failure as a leader,” Tuju spoke.

Kang’ata has since been replaced by Kiambu senator Kimani Wamatangi.
